Leaves haven’t started turning orange yet where I am, but the seasonal change in the air has me filled with anticipation for it. It’s a fitting time for me to come across Mali Fischer’s artwork. Her plant-girls exude a gentle sense of calm that I can’t help sinking into. Through muted coloring and therapeutic repetition of lines and patterns, Fischer pens surreal images of gentleness and dream-like serenity. On pages with bare backgrounds, the focus never leaves the lonely girls and their leaves.
