Member Spotlight: Benjamin Murphy

The talent in our community never ceases to impress me, and as the pool of members grow, so do their variety of medium.

That leads me to the discovery of Benjamin Murphy, who likes to draw directly onto walls with electrical tape as his ink. Yes, that's right, sticky, sticky, black tape and he's pretty damn good at it too. You can find Benjamin in the U.K. or at his blog, ALL DESTRUCTO.

I Faved You

My Sunday night ritual: get lost in the maze of the Doodlers Anonymous Flickr group, while droning in the background is the hazy sound of cheering fans and football commentators. There's so much talent out there that I have to make a conscious effort not to "favorite" everything I see.

Above by Olivia Jeffries and here are some of the others that I've recently fallen for.

Walls, Bags and Everything Else

If I could draw on walls for a living, I would be the happiest person on earth. Camille Rousseau does this and does it so well that it makes me jealous. Check out her paper bag drawings, too. Hell, just check it all out. She's French. She's living in London. And she's a badass.

Games and Exercises

We've all been somewhat busy working on our individual projects. But last Friday, we decided to get ourselves back into the groove of things, DA style. We put on some Stereo Mood (tip: always pick "happy." Even if you're not, you will be after just a few songs), pulled out whatever markers we had lying around (in this case, we had sharpies and good old-fashioned Crayolas) and went to town on a garage door that looked way too bare for our tastes.

Moral of the story: There is none. But that's what doodling is all about - no thinking involved, just drawing.

Here are a few photos of the improvised fun. This is just the beginning. Our intention now is to finish it, with tons of color and not an inch left unmarked.

20 by 40

I'm a sucker for paint on walls. So when I opened my email just now and caught a glimpse of Matt Scobey's recent project where he transformed a quick doodle into a 20x40 foot mural, well, I just had to share it. Click for more process pics and the final look.

OPPY = Lisa Currie = Family

I am very happy to say that we have a new addition to the Doodlers Anonymous team. It's not often that I can make such an announcement. Hugo and I have been on-board since day one. Shortly after, Jamie Tao was featured on the site and almost immediately joined us as a permanent contributor. Along the way, we've had some amazing and special guest contributors, one of them being the wonderfully talented OPPY.

If you know anything about the one and only Scribble Project, then you are quite familiar with our new family member. She now goes by her real name, Lisa Currie, and we are ecstatic to have her join the team. She is the perfect compliment to DA and is fizzing with content and ideas for all of you to doodle with.

Welcome to the family, Lisa. You can find her on flickr or read her original introduction here on DA (from back in July). And if you still don't get our love for her, then check out the totem pole and train scribble project she recently sank her teeth in. You'll be sure to understand then.

Off The Wall

Zeptonn creates fun little worlds that look great on anything. On walls, windows, bottles, boots, magazine covers and a whole lot more. I like how he fills the space (any space) with his intertwining fun.
