Drawing the Cityscape in His Head

Bricks, windows, arches, curves, angles, roofs... you name it, if it's part of the city architecture, it's very likely Daniel Van Der Noon has drawn it.

Everything about his art inspires me. They are all hand-drawn and inked directly onto a wall, window, or canvas. No prior sketching or mapping. It's just one stroke here, another line there and soon enough buildings and rooftops appear.

In his own words, "I like to travel a lot, visit new cities, see new places, hear new noises. Through these skylines I guess that the perks that I experience from traveling around are amplified in ink, and the memories recorded in these ongoing sprawls of images and text."

You'll find plenty to like in the following images, and I guarantee you'll especially enjoy the process videos after the fold.

Drawn Wallpapers for the Digital Age:
Art by Edau, #9

Edau is a Miami-based illustration rockstar. I've had the privilege to work with him side-by-side for almost two years, which has been the catalyst to both interesting and heated conversations. And with the upcoming December onslaught of endless art exhibits in Miami, it couldn't be a more perfect time to make Edau's An Art Show compilation of characters our next wallpaper.

Drawn Wallpapers for the Digital Age:
Art by Greg Kletsel, #8

Greg Kletsel rocked DA as a guest contributor for the months of July and August, sharing the work of some incredibly cool artists and friends, but this time around he's here to offer up a hand-drawn wallpaper that features the coolest cats in town.

We've been sporting this background on our phones and studio computers for the past week and trust me when I say it's one of our favorites to date.

Beyond the Classroom Walls

Zak Peric, an instructor at Tower Hamlets College in London, put together an outstanding doodle project with his students. Over the course of three days, 11 students doodled on the wall of their college.

Using only black ink, students drew shapes, characters, objects, and lines all around the encouraging and positive words: "The difference between who you are and who you want to be is what you do!"

Kudos to Zak for making this happen! Long live teachers and instructors that encourage the arts beyond just the walls of their classroom. Watch it all come to life in the time-lapse video below.
