I have to admit that I'm not the type of person to sit and watch random videos on YouTube or Vimeo. I typically click play and without much delay, I become bored. Yet, with Yulya Aronova's "My Mom is an Airplane" animation I quickly had the opposite reaction.
Frame after frame, I was pleasantly surprised with tiny creative touches. Like the part of the video where the mom-plane swooshes by a grey rain cloud revealing a sun with its rays, wet as if coming out of a hot shower. Or the Eiffel Tower blowing a kiss at the Tower of Pisa, knocking him over to give it that trademark lean. Very clever stuff.
But alas, I've spoiled too much, now go enjoy six awesome minutes.
I just found this video on Vimeo (haha, that rhymed!) by Brainbow and enjoyed it immensely. It's three short hand-drawn 1,600 frame animation composed into one. It's very simply drawn, which I absolutely love, partially colored in with highlighters.
The first video '5 4 3 2...' is a series of continuous Hollywood explosions edited into a simple beat. The second, "Galleria" is a cut from Terminator 2. And the third, which is my favorite (and starts at 2:25), is an original gangsta rap with lyrics provided by the Governator himself and arranged by Harry McGowan.
Get your headphones on. Enjoy the pops of color, fun sound effects and some of Arnold's infamous lines.
