Texture Virus

My visual acuity has just been dominated by Corinne Wright's ridiculously-detailed textured doodles. It is as if, like a virus, each line is slowly overpowering and devouring the landscape they occupy.

Well played Corinne, well played.

Member Spotlight: Wilmer Murillo

Wilmer lives a doodled life, one filled with fun characters, bright colors, scribbled lines and rough textures. He makes a living with strong graphic design and illustration work, but it's his spontaneously drawn stuff I love most, especially when the art lands on shoes, t-shirts, laundry detergent caps, hats and concrete walls.

In the Thick of It

todernst/schabernack's illustrations suspend us in tension and time-- caught in a moment that is at once engaging and uncomfortable. You feel as if you're walking into the middle of a story that, like Morse Code, is hidden within the texture of meticulously-drafted dots and dashes. How different. How lovely.

Character Builder

This guy comes to us from Cape Town, South Africa. His name is Jordan Metcalf. And just by looking at his work, I can tell he is someone I would like to be friends with. Fun and playful in a sarcastic way, just like the characters he draws.

Color Here and There

If you don't like polar bears or giraffes or just amazing blobs of color, you may want to look away. But that's just ridiculous. Luigi Loquarto is a master of throwing down some amazing color combos and creating beautiful, intricate drawings.

Mix and Mash

Have you ever looked at someone's work and thought to yourself, "I want to DO THAT!" Randi Antonsen's work does that to me. Just look at it. All of it. She utilizes and mixes all kinds of medium (pen, pencil, ink, acrylic, watercolor, collage, etc.) and creates so much texture and depth. It's pure visual poetry. Take a look at her portfolio. There's so much good work that I don't even know what to do with myself.

Life Pushes Through the Cracks

I am drawn to art with passion. That is what grabs me about the illustrations of Tim Marrs. He transports us to an urban world that in many ways is full of chaos, brokenness and turbulence yet it is filled with rich layers of texture, color, and beauty. Tim's collage style is a turbulent mix of photos, sketches, doodles, hand lettering, graffiti, and paint strokes. What at first looks like chaos and disorder is really thoughtful, eye catching, well crafted design. I'm not sure if he would see himself as a doodler, but I love the way he draws and how those little sketchy doodles and loose hand lettering work so well in his finals.
