Member Spotlight: Rik Catlow

Rik paints smashed up beer and soda cans with his style of "urban pop art." Drawing quirky characters and embellishing them with type, colors, and magazine cut-outs is what he does best and we love him for it. Click for a glimpse of what I mean or read about his process here.

And now I've just discovered that he's keeping a tumblr blog of sketchbook doodles called Scrib Dibbles and I just had to share. Follow along for improvised, one-color, pen on paper, character-driven awesomeness. Drawn and posted with no editing or erasing. Much respect!

September's Guest Contributor:
Lee Crutchley

You know him as the author of Quoteskine, a book of drawn quotes, lyrics and clever word play, and for the month of September you'll know him as our blog's guest contributor.

Lee is an up and coming illustrator in the UK that's tirelessly working to "make it" as a freelancer. He runs an incredibly beloved tumblr blog, but plans to step a bit out of that role this month to post on Doodlers Anonymous about the people and things that inspire him.

You can stalk him on twitter, visit him at leecrutchley.co.uk or simply welcome him to the site in the comments below.

Little Miss Typophile

One look through Maia's website; Lettering Daily, and you'll quickly grasp that she has a healthy obsession with fonts, type families, script and random thoughts in doodle form. The hand-drawn series is perfectly swirly, feminine, romantic and inspiring all at the same time.

Digital Doodles

I came across these lovely digital doodles the other day, by Karla Sharin. I really like the pop culture/Indie music references and the soft hand that makes me wonder, are these really digital? And get this, she's only 17! Check out some more of her compu-sketches at: http://digitaldrawings.tumblr.com/
