Girlie Pains

The thing I like most about Mel Stringer's sketchbooks is that they feel like peeking into someone's diary. A diary that's tucked away under a bed with a threatening note doodled on the cover and hearts on the spine. The kind of diary that only your best friend is allowed to look inside, while eating cereal, listening to mix tapes and giving each-other homemade tattoos…

MeloDRAWmatic, I Love You

Erika Kuhn has some of the most dark, moody and dramatic sketchbooks I've ever seen. It's personal. It's stimulating. It's plenty full of angst and beauty and love and passion. Viewing the images on DA hardly give them justice, as she's always presenting them in the context of her poetic words, so be sure to visit her blog (she writes in Spanish, but Google translate will give you the gist of it).

I am curious what comes first for her. Is it the melodramatic words that accompany and inspire each of her sketchbook drawings or the other way around, with the drawings inspiring the words? To be honest, it doesn't even matter, I am in love.

Oh Em Gee

Frida Stenmark draws lots of different things, but it's when you see her drawn collection of personal things that you'll say, "oh mon dieu!" You'll find ink flasks, keys, her favorite books, a sewing kit and even some of her frilly panties. It prompts the voyeur in me to want to peek through her window and see all these tangible things strewn about her room. Take a look, you'll want to join me too.
