Alvaro and I are buddies. We work together from 9 to 5 (more like 10 to 7) and now he's sharing his finds and inspirations at DA. He's an avid doodler, like us all. I posted about his drawings here (Somewhere in the City) so get reacquainted with him! And now enjoy his first find for Doodlers Anonymous. I love show and tell!

In Alvaro's words: "If you live in New York, chances are that you will be noticed by Jason Polan. Not only will you be seen by him, but chances are high that you'll be drawn by him. That's his intention anyway. Jason is attempting to draw every person in New York and the result of this enterprise is the constantly updated blog "Every Person in New York." Honestly, I don't think that he will be able to accomplish it (it is quite a task), but let me say that it's is a wonderful thing to watch him try with such spontaneous, light and effortless trace."

I love .Bipolar's line portraits. As rough and crude as these drawings are, there's still something tender and poetic about each one of them. I know I've seen these people, somewhere, walking about, trying to get noticed while being a wallflower at the same time.

I knew nothing about the Republic of Estonia. In fact, I had to do a little Wikipedia lookup just to get an idea of the region from which Liisa Kruusmägi is from. Liisa lives and works in Tallinn, the capital and largest city of Estonia, on the banks of the Gulf of Finland. A far away place from where I reside, and maybe all the more reason why I enjoyed her sketchbook so much.

Her website seems to just go on forever. You can scroll down past dozens of drawings, illustrations and images of the town and characters that surround her everyday. I don't know Liisa, but I wouldn't hesitate to claim that she is never without a pen in hand.

What can I say? I seriously love everything James draws. It's messy, raw and untamed, but all very intentional at the same time. His work is all over the place too, from colorful and bold portraits of dead kings and queens to black and white comic-like panels of zombies and devils. I've collected some of my favorite here, but also make sure you don't miss his drawn posters of compiled masks, flags and planes.

Last week I took my little brother to the movies to see Iron Man 2. He's only five, so he's growing so much every day. During the big fight scene, he pulled at my arm and (speaking some with his little open mouth, but mostly with his huge blue eyes), whispered something like "Lisa, I am so glad this is not in 3D".

That's something that happened last week. And as much as the moment fills me up, I know the specialness of it doesn't read so good to a third person. So when I crawl into the comic drawings of Aidan Koch, I wonder how he does it.

I wonder how he can take something as elusive as a moment, and neatly wrap it up in a page of loose, inky marks and quiet grey lines. Is there a secret technique to not just show someone what happened, but pull them into it with you?

I’m so thrilled to start my guest writing here by showing you some never seen before glimpses of Simon Wild's sketchbooks. His work is so vibrant and full of energy.

I met him recently when he came down to London to meet us at a graphic art fair and it was great to browse through his moleskine while we were having lunch by the river. I noticed his fab website doesn’t have a sketchbook section and asked him for a few spreads and a few words on the relevance of his sketchbooks with relation to his working process.

Have you ever looked at someone's work and thought to yourself, "I want to DO THAT!" Randi Antonsen's work does that to me. Just look at it. All of it. She utilizes and mixes all kinds of medium (pen, pencil, ink, acrylic, watercolor, collage, etc.) and creates so much texture and depth. It's pure visual poetry. Take a look at her portfolio. There's so much good work that I don't even know what to do with myself.
