One More Time, for the Cheap Seats
in the Back

Every weekend Joe List peppers his copy of the Guardian newspaper with cute, slimy, dorky creatures. He gives a face to every faceless object, and ensures that cranky dinosaurs in tiny bowler hats are given their front-page glory! With online news becoming the norm now, he might not have much longer to get these creatures down on actual newsprint, so we best make the most of it while we can, right?

Confession. We've actually mentioned Joe before. OKAT featured The Annotated Weekender on DA in 2009 (yep, that long ago...) but since you probably don't have the spare-time or the breathing apparatus to dive that deep into our archives, here it is again. There's over FOUR YEARS of new content for you to catch up on and giggle at.

Here are a few of my favourites. This was not an easy cull to make!

Showcase #5:
All the News that's Fit to Draw

We are surrounded by information—streaming, printed, visual, glossy, sound bytes. How do you decide which story to read, which source to rely on, how do you digest the information and how do you further disseminate it? At what point does news become gossip and gossip become news?

For Showcase #5, we challenge you to dive into the flood of information and draw your favorite news headline of this week. Share your story and you could win the stupendous Boogie Board LCD Writing Tablet (a $39.95 value), the perfect accoutrement for any avid doodler. Read on for submission details and deadline »

To Whom It May Concern

I'd like to use the excuse of New Year's Eve to acknowledge and thank everyone who visits and supports Doodlers Anonymous. We've been having so much fun with the site lately that I want to keep it going forever and ever. Wouldn't it be great if we all got together one day and drew in each other's notebooks?

Anyway, there is way too many of you to personally address. So instead I'll throw out a blanket thanks to the guest contributors from 2009 and to all the websites linking back to us, to the awesome emails of support and to the artists that inspire us everyday, to all the readers of DA and to those that became members, to those of you that bought coloring books and to the rest of you that might in the future :) Thank you, thank you, thank you.

Go off now and pop the champagne. Oh, and "to draw more" better be on your list of new year resolutions.

DA Flickr Group

Yesterday we launched a Doodlers Anonymous group over at Flickr to act as an extension of this site. Anyone can participate by joining flickr and adding your own doodles, drawings and sketches (just be sure to keep it non-digital). We've also added a little widget to the right column of the blog that pulls 6 random images from the group. Join today and help build the community (we've already got an amazing 146 members).

New Contributor: Jamie Tao

Great news DA readers. Jamie Tao (our first featured artist) will now be a semi-regular contributor to the blog. Her first post is a great find for both photographers and artists alike. Let's put the pens down for a moment and give her a warm welcome :)
