Step Up Your Selfie Game with Doodles

Tons of girls have an Instagram account full of selfies, and Helene Mehldahl is no exception... but there's a twist. You might be living under a rock if you haven't seen Helene (aka mirrosme) on Instagram after she blew up recently, but there's no way I can't write a post about these unique doodles.

She says it all started with her habit of writing cute messages to her roommates with lipstick on their mirrors, and before long her imagination got carried away with it. These doodles are silly and spontaneous, full of fun and personality. Thatís the DA spirit, isn't it?

Inside the Sketchbook of Gabriel Picolo

Since launching Doodlers Anonymous back in 2009, I've seen my share of Drawing-A-Day projects, but so rare do they ever capture my attention like this one has by Brazil based artist Gabriel Picolo.

His daily drawings are deeply intricate and scenic. How one can pull off this intense of a drawing every day for a year is beyond me. If you're a fan, like I expect you should be, follow him on Instagram for more drawn goodness.

Instagram Likes, Pt. 7

This post is long overdue. I haven't posted my Instagram likes on here since December of last year, even though I've probably faved more than a 100 since then. I dug back and found ten to share with you.

The above photo is one of mine. It's of my tiny Field Notes memo book opened to a spread from my "Drawn Evolution" series. Check out some friends below and if you poke around Instagram a few times a week like I do, drop by and say hello. You can find me by searching @doodlers or @okat.

Doodle Mashup

I want to introduce you to one of my favorite illustration projects of late. It comes to us from Israeli artist, Geffen Refaeli. The concept is incredibly simple, and the result, flawless.

What started as a personal experiment to practice drawing and doodling has turned into a daily art project with over 20,000 followers (in under a year). Every day, Geffen uploads an illustration that was inspired by a mashup of her friends photographs. She takes bits and pieces from their pictures and creates one-color, surreal drawings. She then posts the drawings on Instagram (@dailydoodlegram) with links to the photo feeds that prompted it all to begin with.

I'm a fan, and I'd gamble to say so will you be. Prints are available at her recently launched shop.

Instagram Likes, Pt. 6

I have about 45 random apps installed on my phone and I confess I probably only use five of them regularly. Instagram is in that small group of five. I'm a visual person, so being able to pull a feed of images from folks that inspire me has become a daily pleasure/addiction.

This is another segment for one of my favorite columns on DA. Part six begins with one of my own drawings (at top) and continues to feature things from scribbles to refined illustrations from some very inspiring people. You can click the following links to view the archive: part one, two, three, four, and five.

Starbucks Coffee Cup Doodles

Tokomo draws cute characters that interplay with Starbucks coffee cups. Day after day she uploads doodles to her Instagram feed that receive quite the love (over 2,000 likes an image). Her consistency is incredible and I'm always pleased when she reveals how the drawing will play onto the surface of the cup.

Starbucks owes this girl some stock options. More after the fold Ľ

Instagram Likes, Pt. 5

If you haven't noticed, I like writing these type of entries. It's fun to show off some of the things that inspire me or catch my eye over on Instagram. Here's yet another collection. Scroll down and look at all the pretty stuff.

The one on top is by me and a reminder that you can follow Doodlers Anonymous along by searching "okat" or "doodlers" in the app. See you over there soon.
