We've all been somewhat busy working on our individual projects. But last Friday, we decided to get ourselves back into the groove of things, DA style. We put on some Stereo Mood (tip: always pick "happy." Even if you're not, you will be after just a few songs), pulled out whatever markers we had lying around (in this case, we had sharpies and good old-fashioned Crayolas) and went to town on a garage door that looked way too bare for our tastes.

Moral of the story: There is none. But that's what doodling is all about - no thinking involved, just drawing.

Here are a few photos of the improvised fun. This is just the beginning. Our intention now is to finish it, with tons of color and not an inch left unmarked.

Back in uni days, I was lucky enough to have illustrator and comic artist Simone Lia as my tutor and just look at her work and you’ll see exactly what I mean by lucky.

Simone’s work is a constant source of inspiration for me, I love her way of seeing the world and how she visually translates her observations perfectly both in her illustrations and comics.

Her body of work is so consistently rich in narrative and packed with humour. I’m particularly fond of her heart warming graphic novel Fluffy, and her Jesus as she saw it when she was six years old is absolutely priceless…

Every week I look forward to her blog updates but I also thought it was about time to catch up properly and asked her a few questions especially for this post. Here it goes:

I just spent an entire morning with the work of Stéphane Prigent. Oh my, I am seriously loving it all, besides the oddity of it and the beautiful use of color, it's the originality in the work that I am most getting caught up in.

I've seen such obvious trends in the work of artists and illustrators lately that Stéphane's feels like an enormous breathe of fresh air. Here's just a small glimpse of some of my favorite, but you really need to just dive into the flickr link with over fifty pages of goodness.

There's something to be said about the sentiment behind a quickly drawn note, which is the exact concept behind Tiny Notions. Lisa Przybylski does (almost) daily post-it drawings for no reason at all. If I found any of her drawings lying around my desk at work, it'd pretty much make my day.

No one is more of a smart ass with their doodles than Marc Johns. Take a flip through his post-it note drawings for insight into the thoughts of logs, socks, antlers and paper clips.
