Collages of Strange Anatomy

Come visit the misunderstood creatures of Beetle Blossom's zoo. Kate McCann carefully cuts apart and rearranges pages from old medical books or fashion magazines that are antique and forgotten, and from the many tiny pieces of paper she creates beastly and fragile hybrids made of bones, insects, plants, human anatomy, and more.

Her paper creatures are grotesque and engrossing, yet so disturbing and elegant that instead of looking away you want to peer closer. McCann says, "Part science fiction, and part fairy story, these collages are like scientific records of my discoveries."

Her Life with a Little Bit of Fiction

Paintings, drawings, words. All of it. I'm in love with Herikita's art. It speaks truths in soft colors and is quite often made-up of angled homes and rooftops, pets and insects, women and men, all of whom are sharing their awkward feelings and I just want more and more of it.

Her bio alone was enough to make me smile. Here's a small bit of my favorite part, "I work at midnight like Cinderella’s mice, almost always, when everyone is sleeping and something pops up in my mind.."

It's such a great visual.

Steampunk is a genre that celebrates Victorian-era style mechanical machinery powered by steam. If you ever watched the films City of the Lost Children or Wild Wild West you'll know exactly what steampunk is all about. Beau Donnan, a mechanical engineer by trade, shared his highly mechanized high-school steampunk sketches on his Flickr feed. Intrigued by the detail, I was led to his collection of Lego steampunk machinery masterpieces created from the vision of those very sketches. It always amazes me to see how powerful sketching can be. How doing so can bridge the gap between the ideas in our head to fully-realized physical creations.

The Future is Drawn

Lee Sankey, may I be blunt? Your science fiction sketches are freaking bad ass. The countless lines that fill every bit of the page. Vehicles that defy gravity and our common sense. Dystopian cities ruled by a merciless ruler. Gadgets that ignite our senses. Stories told behind dizzyingly-tall buildings…

This is all making my brain spasm, and to think you doodled these while on the phone as a call centre agent is simply mind boggling.
