Site Improvements

We tweaked the featured section of the site by making the archive of artists easier to find. We love to hear what you think, so keep those suggestions coming.

Featured: lapin

When flipping through the illustrative works of lapin, you can't help but ask yourself: how does one have the time and skill to draw all of this. Page after page of doodles and sketches from everyday life, caught in an almost literary fashion. For his feature, I've selected 6 spreads from his sketchbook that I find to reflect an amazing compostion of lines, color, and content. His works will inspire you to never let go of your notebook and you'll wish you were travelling right alongside of him. Click to the feature »

Featured: Lauren Nassef

Just a few short weeks ago, I received an email from Lauren confessing that she is an obsessive doodler. Lauren went on to mention this "drawing a day" commitment that she's made and kept for nearly twelve months. I quickly clicked the link to her dailies and got lost in them for nearly an hour. Each one was captivating, and so... for her feature I had the lucky, but difficult task of selecting one from every month.

Featured: Slow Loris

If you like free things, make sure to read this.

I have no idea when I first bookmarked her website, but it was at least 4 years ago. I couldn’t help it, she took line drawings and printed them on t-shirts (two things that I can’t resist). I've since seen her grow into making it a full-time gig with her own 6-arm screen printing press.

For her feature on DA, she's been gracious enough to let us view her process of taking a concept from drawing and color seperation to print and final inking. View details and images from the process here »

Now for the free part... we like giveaways, especially one-off prints. Slow Loris and DA are shipping one lucky person the above print. To win, Slow Loris has add a listing to one of the pages in her ETSY shop that has a secret word. You'll know you've found it, as it will say, "Secret Code Word" right before it. The first person to comment on DA with the correct answer, wins!

Print details: 4-color screen-print on French's red archival paper, measuring 19x25 inches, signed and dated, 1 of 1.

Featured: Kate Bingaman-Burt

I am obsessed with Kate's work and she is obsessed with consumption. Back in 2006, I was lucky enough to receive a package from her full to the brim with zines, t-shirts, credit card statements and flyers all doodled by hand. It was obvious then that she was a compulsive doodle artist and to date, has yet to slow down. Besides her daily purchase drawings, she has been featured in Mike Perry's Hand Job and has recently illustrated the entire breath of the book, Handmade Nation: The Rise of DIY, Art, Craft, and Design.

For her feature here on DA, she has submitted a drawing a day of purchases she made from September 15th to the 21st. Enjoy »

Featured: Nate Williams

I first discovered Nate's work in early 2004 and was immediatley awe struck by his style and expression. On a whim, I sent him an email about a concept I had and wanted him to illustrate. I had nothing to offer but gratitude and a couple of free art prints of the design. Not only to did he indulge my wishes, he turned it around in less than two weeks time. The limited-edition print was called Monkey Bomb and has since turned into a t-shirt.

For this site, I reached out to Nate again... and this time, he obliged with an intimate peak into his daily sketchbook.

Featured: Junkyard Sam

Sam is one of those people that I am so fortunate to have met through the "internets". He is also one of the most frank and genuine artists I've had the pleasure of communicating with. In our chats, we always end up talking about the process of an artwork. How it transforms from the concept or doodle stage to the more refined and final presentation. I was lucky enough to get a look into that process (from his perspective) with the following set of featured images. Enjoy.
