Tentalions, Dragons, & Trolls--Oh My!

Any animal on earth can be improved by adding tentacles to it. If you don't believe me, take a look at the bestiary of Karl Dupere-Richer. He recently shared some images of his sketchbook that really look more like excerpts from a cryptozoological encyclopedia for kids. If you're into Lovecraft, his designs of creepy critters with their slimy feelers will make you tingle. There's even snippets of information written in a made up language that actually looks pretty legit!

Tumblr of the Week:
Everything is Vibrating

I could stare forever at all the little details on Jon Carling's intricately shaded sketches. His many drawings of original creatures tap directly into my love for folklore, and I get carried away imagining what the mythology behind them would be. Carling also has a couple of whimsical yet haunting animated shorts (watch the videos after the fold) that are def worth taking a look at.

Carol in Wonderland

There is something fantastical about Carol Powell's drawings. They feature creatures and animals that are straight out of a Lewis Carroll novel. They are both familiar enough to be distinguishable, but quirky enough to arouse our curiosity.

Come down the rabbit hole and take a peek.

With Love from Pueyrredon Ville

From skulls, strange creatures and weird objects, Alvarez Ortega Bianchi from Buenos Aires Argentina, likes to create series of playful images full of fun characters. I had the opportunity to exchange some lines with him and this is what he told me about his work:

"I'm a director in my own studio, Cucacolor, where we develop graphic design, art direction and illustration. I like to think that everything that I saw or liked, or make me felt something, lies randomly into my works. Also like to include everyday stuff in there. Im such a fanatic of details and little things that make the works special, at least for me. Most of my works are hand drawn, with lovely black ink, sometimes Id use magic markers to add a little color and sometimes Id do it digitally. It depends on the project, because I also love to make big paintings, murals in the street or wherever I find the right place. Salud!"

Creatures from the Ground

I found some really crazy creatures today, and they all come from The Creepy Catacomb. The person that digs them up and serves them to us is Krysthopher Woods from Argentina. Well, I'm not sure if he's the one that digs them up, or if he's the one who buried them in the first place. Or maybe he just makes portraits of the creatures before they go on their last journey. So take a peak at these fine drawings and try not to feel the dirt the next time you go to bed.

Soft Sharp Lines

Cella makes beautiful collage allegories that warm you up instantly. I cant remember someone that made clean scissor lines so soft, like she does. Somehow she succeeded to erase all coldness from the collage technique and make her stories full of light and her creatures full of life. I would love to take one of her collages outside with me, on some nice meadow, and just watch how light and shadows reflects on it.

Warm and Playful

Yellow, yellow! Nice little film by Caleb Wood with a beautiful animation and a perfect atmosphere for this warm summer days. Gentle meadow in all its simplicity, and a little creature that explores it... Just beautiful!
