Open Call / Coloring Book Vol. 2

Oh wow. It's hard to believe it's been over two years since we printed our first coloring book. I still remember the day we set the pages loose and the kids went wild coloring them in (view the colorific photos). The look on the kids' faces were priceless, as they added so much brightness to the bold lines set by folks like Nate Williams, John Malta, Gemma Correll and 26 other artists.

We're thrilled to announce that we are finally ready to print our second volume. This is an open call for submissions, we want everyone to participate. The page count has yet to be determined, but we definitely expect it to include more artists and pages than our previous run (which you can buy here).

If your submission is selected, it will be featured on Doodlers Anonymous and receive credit on its respective page and in the table of contents. You will of course also get a copy of the coloring book mailed to you.

We are setting an aggressive deadline of January 31st. Your art must be one-color (black), sized at 8.5" x 11" and submitted to cb2@doodlersanonymous.com as a hi-res JPG (300dpi). Now go draw.

Do You Have Protection?

The sketchbook of Jabson Rodrigues is exploding with sexuality. The drawings are erotic, playful and composed of bold and exact lines. You'll find some of his work on the streets of Brazil, but until then visit his flickr for a peek into some well drawn sensuality.

It Bleeds

This new set of drawings by Rolf Schröter immediately caught my attention. Ink and watercolor mix, stain and bleed onto calligraphy paper bound in a handmade Japanese folded sketchbook. It's a visual feast, bon appetite.

All My Pistachios

I just had so much fun looking through the sketchbook of Andres Guzman. His doodles are on crack and I mean that in the best possible way. The drawings are lucid and the color smears of yellow and red have me hungry for more. Follow his tumblr for more disturbing goodness.

Three Brothers

Cartoon Characters is a collaboration by three Dutton brothers: Mike Dutton (the artist), Henry Dutton (the music creator) and lastly, David Dutton (who master-minded the whole project).

David explains that he started off the project by raiding "all of [Mike's] sketchbooks; getting scans or shooting the more awkward pages" with his Canon 7D camera and that's the great thing about this video, you can see the personality and ever-changing tone in Mike's sketchbook as it gracefully animates frame by frame.

Ominous Characters

Sometimes you stumble upon work that's so mesmerizing it's difficult to explain. Benjamin Edmiston's pieces are that kind of work. And as I struggled to find the correct adjectives to describe them, I succumbed to the eloquent way as to which the artist did so himself.

Bejamin explains: "My compositions feature unusual or fantastical settings inhabited by ominous characters depicted in a flat and decorative style. My bold, and often symmetrical, drawings offer a plane of floating heads, half-skinned snakes, and bodiless arms. Building a personal vocabulary with such imagery recalls for me the tension of an early, crude Mickey Mouse cartoon, or a misplaced folk sculpture standing eerily on a dusty shelf. The creation of a familiar but askew world — the sensation of the unheimlich is what fuels my work."

A Pirate's Life for Me

This music video for We Cut Corners by Kijek / Adamski is a must see. I've already watched it three times while waiting for my coffee to brew. The entire two and a half minutes was done with markers on paper, that's it! Well, that, and a whole lot of talent ;)
