She Will Paint on ANYTHING

The people of Portugal who have the chance to see this street artist's work while they go about their daily business are so lucky. Her name is Vanessa Teodoro, also known as Supervan, and she will paint on anything. Cars, bodies, furniture, gigantic sunglassesĖSeriously anything.

My personal favorite is her project titled "Mi Querida Casa," in which she created a real life drawn house environment where the furniture looks like doodles. Once she gets going, Teodoro wastes no space on whichever unusual surface she chooses to draw on. Every inch of her work has something crammed into it, making it hard for me to decide where to look first when a ton of striking images are demanding my attention at once. There's so much movement in her murals that I keep finding some witty little details tucked away in the crowd of her art that I skipped over at first glance. It's the kind of art you can just sit back and stare at while you sip your drink. Continued Ľ

Blockheads - Faces Doodled on Post-It Notes

Drawing a face on a post-it is pretty common when you have a pad handy and get the impulse to doodle, but Erik RVA takes it to the next level. His massive series of faces on post-its is impressive because he doesn't seem to run out of ways to make them have unique personalities that come across strongly.

His post-it blog calls itself "My life on sticky notes," which is relevant because often the background of the post-its adds some meaning to the doodle. Whether he is doodling a friend, doodling at the pool, or at the barbecue, or over his taxes - seeing what inspired him to pick up the pen and markers right in the picture behind the face is pretty neat.

Doodle My Ride

Quick, to the Doodlemobile! It all started when Allison improvised a creative way to cover up some scratches on her boyfriend's car, which he didnít mind because he was making plans to repaint it anyway. She got a little carried away and kept doodling beyond the scratches, until she had sharpied the entire bumper in one night. Needless to say, the repainting plans got trashed and the car became Allison's new canvas. About 100 hours of frenzied doodling later, they now have the most eye-catching car Iíve seen in a long time.

Bonus! Click after the fold to see a time-lapse video of Allison at work, including funny peeks at what she does during her breaks from doodling.

Doodlers, Assemble!

It's normal for those who spend a lot of time on trains to develop the habit of people-watching, but October Jones takes it to the next level. Observing what the commuters around him are wearing and doing, he doodles a face onto a post-it to stick over the person's head and suddenly the strangers around him are familiar faces that he has known his entire life. It's jarring to see nostalgic characters like Kermit on his iPad or Batman slumping in his seat, and I can't get enough of it. Pretty funny to think that extraordinary characters put into such an ordinary situation would act just like any of us do.

Tumblr of the Week: Bela Unclecat

Our first time crossing paths with Bela Unclecat was when she sent us back one of our Doodle Addict postcards from Japan with one of the most charming and lively doodles we have received. Just look at it! How many animals can you count in the left corner alone? There is a chicken thing standing on a cat that is holding a stack of tea cups that the chicken thing is drinking out of and there is a stream of tea coming into the teacup from a teapot, suddenly we've travelled all the way to the opposite side of the picture, what a magical journey that was and we're nowhere near done seeing all the sights there are to see.

There's plenty more where that came from on Bela Unclecat's tumblr. I just can't get enough of her nostalgically playful universe.

If you're addicted to tumbling as well as doodling, follow Doodlers Anonymous on Tumblr for even more daily inspiration. You might even see yourself on there!

An Incredible Book of Drawn Vintage Cars by Lapin

We've featured French artist Lapin many times here on DA. Every time I look at his work it inspires me to drop everything and sketch. You too will fall in love with the composition of his lines and the mass collection of sketchbooks he's filled from cover to cover (look for yourself).

So it's with great joy that I learned today that he plans on publishing a book (Oldies but Goldies) with his incredible collection of drawn vintage cars found on the streets. I'll say it again, these are not drawings he's making back in his studio with photo references. He literally stumbles across a car and can't imagine passing it without respecting its history, so he sits down right then and there and draws it.

In his own words: "I project the dim light of those years in my book through my drawings and try to tell you the beauty behind the wrinkles, the experiences behind the broken parts and memories behind their dust so that they will be immortal."

He's running a campaign to raise funds to print this fantastic book. Follow the link and support this project (by doing so you'll also secure yourself a copy).

Make Comics with Josh Bayer

Josh Bayer is a prolific cartoonist, independent publisher and teacher based in New York City. I took Josh's Comics and Cartooning class in Brooklyn last year and learned a ton about the history of comics, ranging from early newspaper strips to Marvel's Golden Age to the alternative comics being made today. He also taught us his process, storytelling, drawing and inking techniques, and encouraged us to make our own comics using a number of different methods.

One of the best things about the class was being able to see Josh's sketchbooks in person. He usually works on a bunch of projects at once, over multiple sketchbooks. The pages are as intense as the drawings themselves. Layers of corrections, obsessive hatching, watercolor, and ink carved into the paper. Josh lives and breathes comics, and his artwork reflects that dedication and craft.

I had a really difficult time choosing just a few images to share here from the mountains of work he's created over the years. For more of Josh's drawings and comics, go to his tumblr, portfolio site, and online store. His latest comic is the amazing Raw Power 2.
