Member Spotlight: Laura Lea

Looking through Laura's flickr pages, I get the feeling that she's having tons of fun just doodling away. Her drawings seem genuine and impromptu, and that's such a relief, in contrast to the hesitation and contrived efforts so many of us face when staring at a blank sketchbook page.

Member Spotlight: Mariana Abasolo

Mariana Abasolo is a fellow Brazilian and quite the avid doodler. Two major points for that! The use of black and white versus color in her drawings, combined, are the perfect mix. They are simple and a little wacky, just the way I like 'em. Oh, and she's already a member of DA! Three points! She's on a role today.

Member Spotlight: Benjamin Murphy

The talent in our community never ceases to impress me, and as the pool of members grow, so do their variety of medium.

That leads me to the discovery of Benjamin Murphy, who likes to draw directly onto walls with electrical tape as his ink. Yes, that's right, sticky, sticky, black tape and he's pretty damn good at it too. You can find Benjamin in the U.K. or at his blog, ALL DESTRUCTO.

Member Spotlight: Ed Milsom

Droog79 is the alter-ego of salty-faced Ed Milsom, who spews “brain ink over scarce supplies of paper” when he’s not falling off waves in southern Mexico.

Alluring work that captures the patterned chaos of the sea. Check out
his doodles and tshirt art on his flickr feed and blog. Righteous.

Member Spotlight: Jim Kaufmann

I was searching for something different today and I found it in the works of Jim Kaufmann. He's technically a writer, but claims to have found the visual arts again after a long hiatus.

We couldn't agree more. Jim's art is a mash-up of acrylics and intricate pen work, with a touch of cut-and-paste collage. So many attempt this style and fall short. Jim does not. His work looks improvised and accidental but it somehow all falls into place.

Member Spotlight: James Barker

What can I say? I seriously love everything James draws. It's messy, raw and untamed, but all very intentional at the same time. His work is all over the place too, from colorful and bold portraits of dead kings and queens to black and white comic-like panels of zombies and devils. I've collected some of my favorite here, but also make sure you don't miss his drawn posters of compiled masks, flags and planes.

James became a member of Doodlers Anonymous in December of 2009, but you can mainly find him on flickr and jamesillustration.co.uk

Member Spotlight: Muxxi

Muxxi is a recent member of DA that draws from Guatemala and declares she's lost in a crazy doodle world.

We absolutely agree. It's a weird and fantastic world of characters, expressions and beautiful, colorful scenes. See for yourself »
