Member Spotlight: Mason McFee

Holy crap, I just spent too much time on Mason's flickr site. I got lost in the randomness of his doodles and how they seem to land on any damn thing he comes across. His drawings are loose and unpretentious, free to roam, with layers of goofiness but end in an almost perfect layout and composition.

Mason, let's go have a beer, and then draw me something to hang on my wall.

Member Spotlight: Anke Braatz

I love that Anke describes her sketchbooks as "everyday training." It's exactly on-point, as she uses them to practice her craft and quickly capture a moment of everyday life, page after page.

Beyond her sketchbook pages, what I like most about her work are the drawings on different papers that layer to form a perfect design and final illustration.

Member Spotlight: Anika

I remember seeing Anika's work back in 2010 when she participated in a giveaway we were doing here on the site. It's been a long time since then, but now she's captured my attention again with her pattern a day series on flickr.

The quick and simple doodles loosely repeat themselves in bright colors on the pages of her sketchbook. She claims there's no theme, but look how complementary and developed they appear when presented in the context of a set. Join me in encouraging her to keep it going over the coming months. YAY Anika!

Member Spotlight: Rik Catlow

Rik paints smashed up beer and soda cans with his style of "urban pop art." Drawing quirky characters and embellishing them with type, colors, and magazine cut-outs is what he does best and we love him for it. Click for a glimpse of what I mean or read about his process here.

And now I've just discovered that he's keeping a tumblr blog of sketchbook doodles called Scrib Dibbles and I just had to share. Follow along for improvised, one-color, pen on paper, character-driven awesomeness. Drawn and posted with no editing or erasing. Much respect!

Member Spotlight: Abel Macias

I love discovering new members in the DA community whose art I feel obligated to share with you. Say hello to Abel Macias, a freelance illustrator and designer who has recently confessed to me that doodling has been a distraction and inspiration for him since elementary school.

Visit his website and you'll see that comes as no surprise. I love what I found in his shop too, but first, look at this collection of drawings from him.

Member Spotlight: Chloe

For those new to DA, the member spotlight is when I bring everyone's attention to someone from our community whose artwork has caught my eye. Today that someone is Chloe, you can meet the others here.

Chloe is a French art student whose lines are still learning to land in all the right places, but I really enjoyed seeing the different styles that she's experimented with over time at her blog. The talent is definitely there and I look forward to following along on her journey.
