Giveaway: 1000 Days of Drawing

I've never met another drawing madman like Chris Piascik. His sharpie must never leave his hand. On DA alone we've featured his work countless times and now again, for a compilation of one-thousand of his drawings. Every day, for many, many days now Chris has doodled something in the category of music, politics, bikes, characters, complaints, quotes or plain old improvised doodles.

I am going to give one of you this book. All you have to do is leave a comment below with something that you obsess over, like Chris obsesses over drawing. Share your addiction with the rest of us, and your name gets put in the hat. We'll randomly choose one of you in seven days. Comments close (end of day) July 16th, we'll draw the name the following day. Go on now, play along.

Giveaway: Quoteskine, Vol. 1

A book of quotes, lyrics and clever drawings on the topics we all love to hate or hate that we love. Lee Crutchley makes drawing fun again and we've got 144 pages to prove it.

Lee is a doodler, and he's been one since the age of 14. He's been posting drawn words on his tumblr blog for the past couple years and many of us have turned fans of the quirky, often comical and very relevant sharpie scribbles. Now they've been published into a book and we've got a signed copy for one of you to keep.

To play along, leave a comment below with your favorite quote from a movie (don't forget to also credit the film). We'll collect them all into a hat and pull one lucky winner. Comment by Thursday, January 5th and we'll announce the winner the next day.

Over 40 Hand-Drawn Birthday Cards

In early September we asked you to join us in celebrating three years of DA by submitting a hand-drawn birthday card, the cherry on top being the ginormous giveaway of awesome prizes that was to be awarded to the submission that stood out among all the rest.

When the submissions came rolling in we were absolutely humbled by the amount of kind words and love the community had for Doodlers Anonymous. I speak for all of us here at DA when I tell you that we appreciate every single one of you for your participation and constant support through the years.

We received forty-something drawings and it was tough to pick just one. We loved them all, but when Julia Smelansky's submission (the styrofoam-dimensional doodle above) came through our email we all just instantly smiled. Big congrats to Julia from Israel for the win, it's well deserved. In regards to the runner-ups, we were supposed to pick just two, but were stuck of course, so we picked three. Congrats to Michelle Chung, Muxxi, and Tati Abaurre for drawing up such cleverness in your cards, with humor and relevance to DA.

This wasn't a competition, this was meant to be fun and to give us an opportunity to hand out some cool things from talented artists and brands that have become our friends over the years. We hope to make 10 times the friends in the coming years and we'll do our best to keep this going for as long as you keep coming back. Special thanks to Blik, Thumbtack Press, Kate Bingaman Burt, Bianca Green, Chris Piascik, Sandra Dieckmann and Anorak Magazine for the wonderful prizes.

Winning Drawings

A few weeks ago, we did a giveaway where I asked you guys to submit a quote that speaks of who you are. I picked two winners and drew them incorporating their quotes. Without further ado, I would like you to meet two friends of DA, Josh LaFayette and Ellie (aka comfits). Josh's "favorite hobby is breakfast." And Ellie is "like an octopus on roller skates."

Take a look at the process, from the initial pencil drawing to pen to watercolor and collage.

Josh and Ellie, check your mailboxes soon. I think I may now know your faces better than you do. :)

Giveaway: A Hand-Drawn Portrait of You by Jamie Tao

That's Okat. You may know him as the founder of Doodlers Anonymous. His dark disheveled hair, crazy full beard, distinct eyes and nose - I love capturing it on paper. Like he said, "It's like looking in a mirror, but better."

A face says so much. Ever since I can remember, I have always loved drawing them. My most recent project has been to combine my two favorite things - face and type - to portray a person and the essence of who they are.

This is where the cool part comes in. I'm doing a giveaway. I want to draw you.

For the chance to win a 9"x12" signed, hand-drawn portrait of you, all you have to do is leave a comment below with a quote or phrase that best describes your personality. We'll pick one winner based on the quotes submitted. (This quote/phrase will be incorporated into your portrait. The winner will also have to send us a photo of themselves.)

The winner(s) have been chosen!

With over 70 comments, it was difficult to choose just one winner, so instead I chose two. Good on you. :) Congrats to Josh LaFayette ("My favorite hobby is breakfast.") and Ellie Kneeland ("...like an octopus on roller skates"). Please send over a close-up photo of you so I can see all the details of your wonderful faces.

Thanks for everyone's participation. What a fun way to get to know our members!

And keep on the lookout! We're making these hand-drawn portraits available for purchase in our shop very soon, so you can order your very own.

Giveaway: Drawn In by Julia Rothman

If I were to envision Doodlers Anonymous as a published book, it would look damn close to the one I am about to give away.

Julia Rothman is an illustrator and pattern designer who runs the popular blog Book By Its Cover, which features a different art-related book every weekday. We've been fans of the site since day one and especially love the weekly sketchbook series.

Her latest book, Drawn In, is a peek into the inspiring sketchbooks of 44 fine artists, illustrators, graphic designers, and cartoonists. It's an incredible read, filled with insightful q&a and beautiful full-color photographs of sketchbook pages that were quite possibly never meant to be seen.

We are fans not only of the content, but because it features some of our favorite artists. Of the 44, at least 10 have been featured on Doodlers Anonymous, including the amazing Ted McGrath.

Friends of DA, we are giving this great book away. To be in the running, just leave a comment with the title of a book you bought because of its cover. We'll pick a winner from the hat. Comments close June 15th (Wednesday) at 2pm Eastern. Good luck everyone;...and for those of you that can't wait, get your hands on the book today. It deserves to be on your coffee table.

And the winner is: Robyn Wells. Congrats!
