Repeat Pattern Repeat

This here is an obvious one for DA. We love Julia Rothman. We love patterns. And we love anything hand drawn. Click this link for an easy to follow, step-by-step tutorial showing how to make a repeat pattern (without even a computer) by Julia Rothman.

If any of you give it a try, we'd love to see the results, send to: editor {at} doodlersanonymous {dot} com

The Road Less Travelled

What strikes me the most about the cleverly written post-it notes left to their fate in public places, drawn by "writer", is not just the message and beautiful hand-drawn lettering, but where the post-it notes are actually placed. Gotta love "Listen to your inner voice" posted inside a phone booth, while the "Take the road less traveled" note is affixed to a multi-directional sign at a public park. I dare you to look at just one and not want to see them all.

Waitressing

If Anna Magnowska ever served you a bite to eat, then you might be featured in the collection of character drawings inspired by her time as a waitress. Don't just look at the art, reading it is actually the best part.

"Oh come on, what's your real job? I mean this can't be it... it's alright for, you know, them but you're English!" --text from above image.

Monster's Ball

The above doodles are drawn by Isaac, Gracie and Lily. They are not adults. They are the children of one dad who runs the site Bookie Woogie and they are the ages of 10, 8 and 5.

At Bookie Woogie, three kids and their dad review books with some accompanying fan art. And their monsters are better than yours.

The Scribble Project

The simplest ideas are always the best ideas. The wonderfully talented Annie Dwyer Internicola dropped me a note about the samesame scribble project by Lisa Currie and I could not have been happier. This project was born from a daydream Lisa had of everyone attacking the same template page differently and now it has launched with a showcase from talented artists like Gemma Correll (above) and Sean Morris. Visit the site and email Lisa to get your own scribble sheet.

Hand Drawn Map Association

The HDMA sounds so formal, like some kind of ancient tweed-wearing, tea-sipping committee. And, while they are building a library, it's far from dusty and silent. It's a collection of surprisingly lively and diverse maps-- all unique, all hand-drawn. And when you think about it, if necessity is the mother of invention, doodling could very well have begun with directions to the laundrymat.

Maps above #40 by Jeff Werner and #74 by Anonymous.
