The Quintessential, Quirky, Compendium of Cats / A Mini-Coloring Book Featuring 28 Global Artists

Purring softly in the corner, curled up and licking itself, is DA's first mini-coloring book, and we suddenly realized that we never made the acquaintance. So, dear community, we're proud to introduce you to "The Quintessential, Quirky, Compendium of Cats!"

As submissions rolled in for our second coloring book, we noticed an undeniable theme. Cats from here till Sunday - cats wearing clothes, admiring cubist paintings, looking French, sipping coffee. So we hoarded (*ahem, I mean compiled) them like a crazy cat lady, knowing one day we'd find them a proper home, a book all their own.

And so the mini-coloring book was born! The book -- featuring 28 global artists in a mashup of styles-- is truly the cat’s meow, because it's not only creative and cuddly, it's charitable.

In honor of OKAT's own shelter cat, Mylo, Doodlers Anonymous and The Quintessential, Quirky, Compendium of Cats! is proud to support The American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals® and its mission to save lives. (aspca.org)

Like anything from our shop, this will ship with a DA doodle sticker, bookmark and postcard. So color it up, get crazy with a crayon, and help support our feline friends!

Coloring Book, Vol. 2

Some of my favorite moments working on Doodlers Anonymous is when we extend ourselves beyond the internet to produce something unique and tangible and born from the art of our community.

This week we published our second coloring book. I am thrilled and I'm pretty sure you will be too. I promise that you've never seen a coloring book quite like it. With every page turn you'll discover another style of drawing by a different artist. 60 of them to be exact.

It's now for sale at doodlersanonymous.com/coloringbook (get yourself or your best friend a copy). It will soon appear at a few boutique shops around the globe too. If you'd like to carry it in your shop or know somewhere that should, drop us a line.

Much love and respect to our stellar community of artists and aficionados. It's been a pleasure hosting all of you.

My Favourite Zine Purchase

I was randomly browsing the zine category on Etsy the other night when I saw this Adventure Time Zine by Seth (aged 6) from Brisbane in Australia. I instantly bought it for only $1.20! Then I looked around the shop a little more.

Seth's mom, Tee, is a zine maker and Seth is following in her footsteps. He loves Adventure Time and this is a zine full of his fan art. I love Adventure Time myself, and this is fan art in its best and most pure form. Grown ups just can't draw like kids no matter how hard they try. The drawing of The Ice King is my favourite of them all, it captures him so perfectly.

Tee is awesome for encouraging Seth to make his drawings into zines, and all of the money he makes goes into buying him comics, as well as stationery to make more zines!

I had a little chat with Tee, and Seth is currently working hard on making his own Adventure Time comic with a story line. I noticed on the Etsy listing that Seth is keen for trades of kid friendly zines, comics, stickers, pens, etc. So I'm already planning on making a little zine of my own to trade for his next comic.

Every sale of this zine will encourage Seth to draw more, and encouraging kids to draw is so important. So I've only put a few taster pages of the zine here, if you want to see more you should head to Tee's shop and grab a copy!

2012 Hand-Drawn Calendar

This is our most ambitious project to date -- almost a year in the making. It's the culmination of over 130 submissions, over 2,300 votes, and an infinite amount of creativity. We launch our 2012 DA Calendar with overwhelming pride, not only in the beauty and originality of the artwork, but in the fantastic support of our community. We truly could not have accomplished this feat without you, our supporters and friends.

If you love what we are doing at Doodlers Anonymous, help us fight the good fight. Buying a calendar not only promotes independent artists and helps to support this website, but more importantly, saves you from those overcrowded malls this holiday season.

Irregular Mesh by Camila León
(Process + Install)

Maybe there's something to be said for order, but not by me. I prefer unpredictability and play.

One of our favorite showcase challenges has gone from concept to creation—from doodle to wall decal. The graceful disorder of Camila León's illustration will surely ensnare you, as it has us. (We recently installed it at DA and loved it so much, we moved half the studio furniture around just to better showcase it.)

"Irregular Mesh" is as delicate as lace; but its color, a fierce and unapologetic fuchsia, is roguish and saucy. The abstract design and popping pink color is so sexy, it will make you blush. Apply to any wall (click to buy), and -- voila!-- instant verve and moxie.

The Trip by Michelle Lasalvia
(Process + Install)

We just got lost in a wonderful hour of cutting, rubbing, rolling, and pulling. How we love the tactile and tangible goodness of a hands-on project: the materials, the planning, the process. What fun to focus on something beautiful and immediate. Instant gratification.

The Trip by Michelle Lasalvia is stunning. The web honestly does it no justice. It has been an instant conversation piece at DA’s studio. The colors are vibrant and the quality of the vinyl and packaging exceeded all expectations. You will be enamored, but you’ll also be out of luck if you wait too long. Stock is limited, very limited (click to buy).

Post this beautiful decal on your wall like a ribbon around your finger—a reminder to travel, an inspiration to get out there.

Textiling

Sometimes a little drawing or doodle here and there is all you need to make your house/apartment/dwelling feel like a home. I just moved into a new place. Everything is set and good to go except for some missing finishing touches. My solution: Envelop. I discovered it the other day while looking for some decorative pillows for my couch. Take a look and shop around. Doodles on everything to make your home a happy home.
