Soul Sister

Stefanie Berks is one of my closest friends from RISD. We spent four amazing years together at school, where together we fell in love with textiles and the beauty in craft. What I love about her work is the raw contrast between the feminine and the frilly and the graphic, bold words she uses. From the first time I ever saw her work I always loved the poetry in every piece. She is so good at capturing an emotion with one statement and always something quite sensitive about her approach to color and materials. Keep on stitching' girl...

The Travel Sketchbook

The sketchbook has always been a really amazing way for me to capture a journey. Seeing the world through the eyes of a sketchbook really gives me a sense of an era, and when I look back at them, I really remember each scrap or pen mark from that trip. These are a peek into some of my travel sketchbooks in Cartagena, Colombia, and another one from The Puget Sound, off the Washington Coast. Both of these books really make me nostalgic for these particular places, because I studied the landscapes, painted the faces, and drew my way through them. They really made a dent in my memory because I will always have that connection with these lovely places which I highly recommend visiting and taking your sketchbook with you when you have a chance. Look inside the books

Work in Progress

Here are some pics taken at the Work in Progress show in Central Saint Martins MA Textiles Futures. These are a glimpse of an idea for wall coverings that are inspired by pages blown up from sketchbooks and spontaneous doodling and Traditional Lace. They are very much still a work in progress but I thought I would share them with you anyways. See more

The Wonderful World of Amelie Labarthe

From the moment that I met Amelie in 2008 and saw her work, I knew I was hooked. Her whimsical and playful approach to her art and her life is endlessly inspiring. I was first introduced to her as my tutor from Central Saint Martins, where she always guided us to draw and doodle away because any doodle can become something so much more she would always say.

Her sketchbooks always amaze me because they are so filled with nostalgia, amazing colors, mixed materials and textures. Her brilliant doodles seem to glide right from her mind to the pages of these fun filled books. I really felt a strong connection to her work from the get go, a lover and collector of vintage toys, a textile artist, and oh so much more... meet Amelie Labarthe

Digital Doodles

I came across these lovely digital doodles the other day, by Karla Sharin. I really like the pop culture/Indie music references and the soft hand that makes me wonder, are these really digital? And get this, she's only 17! Check out some more of her compu-sketches at: http://digitaldrawings.tumblr.com/

To My Fellow Doodlers

Here is a great little music video by Archive, the song is called System. I really love all the scribbling and the sassy choreography. Enjoy!

Hi Friends-
I am so so honored and excited to share things with you for the next month. DA has been such a huge source of inspiration to me and I just want to give a shout out to my boy OKAT, thank you so much for this amazing opportunity. I really love DA and all of the great artists that I have been exposed to, inspired by and in awe of since DA's conception.

Doodling has always been such an integral part of my life, in fact I don't know what I would do or where I would be today without it. I can remember countless classes in grade school where I would sit and attempt to take really good notes, but then low and behold the words and letters would slowly trickle and meander off into a wild ferocious sea of psychedelic doodles.
