Chatterbox

I can almost hear the chatter of all the personalities caught on his 100 cardboards. Meet Berni and his extended family.

Found via Lisa Frame's tumblr.

Pretty Sketchy

The abundance of hard and heavy sketch lines in Tesura’s illustrations impart an almost technical textbook feel to the work, which is undercut by his skewed proportions and fantastical bent. He has masterful control of emotion and shadowing. Each piece is more impressive than the last. Here are some of my favorites, but don’t be shy, check them all out on flickr.

Happy Meal

Case in point -- restriction can spark creativity. Drawing on a wrapper, Jancko was able to create hundreds of characters based on the simple three-heart logo of a local restaurant—the doodles are unique, spirited, and plain lovely. Who said nothing good ever came from fast food? Greasy good creativity. Yum.

May’s Guest Contributor: Wirrow

The image of Christopher Wirrow's dirty, ink-smudged hands capture his style. His characters are heavily-shaded and brooding, yet wide-eyed and playful. They are thick with mood and depth. We're proud to introduce him as May's guest contributor. Look for his first entry on Friday, and in the meantime, here are a few selects of his work.

Fan Mail, Part I

We love getting fan mail, especially from talented doodle artists like Chris Seddon. I'm drawn (excuse the pun) to the Classic air of his heavy-handed ink smears and bold sketch marks.

Touchy-Feely

We generally think about doodles two-dimensionally. But, Megan Whitmarsh's drawings leap off the page with colors that pop and shout, and the use of yarn, which adds texture and tactility to the art form. Treat yourself to this rare find.

Backstage

Art is about outward manifestation and expression, a pouring out on the world stage. But, images like this one capture the intimacy of the act of creating—the mechanics, the setting, the materials, the playlist. Listen to Ulla’s music library while viewing her art and experience the moments behind the work.
