Dinner Can Wait, Watch This!

Do you have pasta boiling on the stove right now? If yes, stop reading this and come back later. Really! Same with any half-sleeping baby that might need your attention soon, or that thing scribbled in your diary to do in ten-minutes. Come back when your schedule is wide open, because this is my favourite sketchbook find so far! Ever!

Bryce Wymer is an artist (and creative director) based in Brooklyn NY. He has two hands (I'm making assumptions) that can do very cool things with paint and scissors, and here's the best bit. We all score front-row seats to watch him work! Yep, he made a bunch of time-lapse videos that start with a blank sketchbook page, and finish with... well, go see. Trust me, it's worth delaying dinner for.

Watch the videos after the fold

She Doesn't Even Go Here!

Do you remember in Mean Girls, when Crying Girl just wants to bake a cake filled with rainbows and smiles? So many feelings, no place to share them!

Well, these eight lady-pals have a lot of feelings, too. So they decided to collect them all into a rad little zine! Sad Girls features a few of my favourite illustrators, such as Kaye Blegvad and Tuesday Bassen. It's like a cake made of rainbows and smiles, but for your eyes! Haha, maybe not. I don't know. Anyone who's never seen Mean Girls will be wondering what the funk I'm going on about here.

Enough words, bring on the sweet hand-drawn portraits!

Human Faces For Days

Is there anything nicer to draw than a human face? There's just something about two eyes, a nose and a mouth (and a bit of human flesh) that can lull an HB into sweet, happy, auto-pilot. I like that every hand-drawn face, no matter how similar, is never the same. The slightest twitch of a wrist can make a frown into a seductive smirk, or a wink into a lazy-eye.

I reckon Laura Gee shares my affection for doodling faces! She's an illustrator/set-maker living in London, and this is a peek into her hand-drawn facial records. See more drawings on her (kinda-new) blog Lone Drawings.

Buried In The Attic

Two years ago I waved hello (cyber-wave that is) to Caroline Gaedechens and asked her to please send over a few sketchbook pages. Then somehow I forgot all about it... until today! Thank you Gmail unlimited storage, you da-best.

I've never had an attic in my house, but I imagine this is what it feels like to have a spring-clean and find a treasure. A gentle, quiet, hand-drawn treasure in the attic.

Climbing Hand-Drawn Mountains

If you could have any super power, which one would you choose? How about the superpower to actually crawl inside a drawing and feel, breath, touch and stomp around in this hand-drawn fantasy land? How sweet would that be.

To all you genies and leprechauns out there... please hook me up! I'd really enjoy an afternoon stroll through these creamy pencil landscapes by Maria Gosselin. I'd bring a friend, too. Looks like it might get a bit wild in there.

Takeout Cats with Cheese & Pickles

Do you like cute domestic animals? Me too. Do you like pizza slices and ice-cream? Wow, same here! So I was thinking... put them both together and it's double the fun, right?

I reckon so. Now lucky for us, Ohara Hale is serving up a cat-takeaway menu for us right now. Burger cats, egg cats, cats with a cherry on top. There might be something *kind of* icky about picking pepperoni off cat fur... but hey, it's fricken great eye candy!

That Certain Kind Of Stink-Face

Imagine we're in a real-life gallery right now. You rush up beside me, grab my hand and pull me over to these sketchbook doodles by Russian artist Vladimir Smokov. You say "amazing, huh!" and I nod with a certain kind of stink-face. That certain kind of stink-face that only happens when something is just too good for words.

Then maybe afterwards we'd get a toasted sandwich at a cafe nearby. It'd be a nice day, don't you think?
